Ask Chief Eden for an Independent Investigation

Chief Gorden EdenOn Tuesday, July 22, the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) shot and killed another person--the 27th since 2010 and the 4th since the Department of Justice released their report finding that APD has a pattern and practice of using excessive force. Sign the petition to ask APD Chief Gordon Eden for an impartial, external investigation into this shooting and an immediate release the involved officers' lapel camera footage.

ATTN: Albuquerque Police Department Chief Gorden Eden

We, the undersigned, call on you to ensure that the incident in which APD officers shot and killed Jeremy Robertson on July 22, 2014 receives a thorough and impartial investigation external to the APD. The Albuquerque Police Department's internal investigation process, traditionally led by APD detectives, has not found a single officer involved shooting unjustified since 2010, which is in sharp contrast to the Department of Justice report which found the majority of those shootings unjustified. We cannot therefore at this time place our confidence in APD's internal investigation process. We call on you to demonstrate your commitment to fair, impartial investigations of officer-involved shootings by inviting a credible outside law enforcement organization to lead the investigation.

We also call on you to affirm the APD's commitment to transparency and accountability by immediately and without delay releasing any video footage APD collected of the shooting that resulted in Mr. Robertson's death.
